When I returned to university after the break, I came across an announcement about admissions for the Law program. Without hesitation, I went directly to the administration and switched my major, even though I was close to completing my degree in Human Resources. But the heart follows where its passion lies, and certain moments open doors to new convictions and opportunities we never knew existed.
During my studies in law, my journey was not without challenges. I often heard comments, some direct and others indirect, questioning my decision: “What will you do? There are no female lawyers!” But I firmly believed that determination and persistence were the bridges that would lead me to my aspirations.
I graduated with immense support and love from my late father, who cherished knowledge, justice, and the defense of the oppressed. He was my greatest supporter after God, encouraging me to pursue justice with unwavering faith and love. I began my career volunteering, then worked as a legal researcher, and later as a legal consultant. Those years were filled with stories and experiences, some of which I documented in my book, “Professional Qualification Skills in the Legal Profession.”
When a person enters this world, they have no say in the path they take, nor do they initially possess the freedom to make decisions about many aspects of their life. Some may spend their early years without a purpose to light their way, living in a void devoid of passion or a higher goal to pursue.
This, undoubtedly, is one of the most painful feelings one can experience. Yet, the truth we must all embrace is that every legitimate goal is attainable as long as we place our trust in God and strive with sincerity and dedication to achieve it. As Allah states in the Qur’an:
“And say, ‘Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so will] His Messenger and the believers.'” [At-Tawbah: 105].
My journey with law began unexpectedly, but it led me to where I stand today. I was studying Human Resources at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah. During one semester break, a family friend suffered a severe medical error.
In that moment, the lawyer within me emerged naturally. I found myself researching and analyzing regulations, doing everything I could at the time. That incident became the spark that ignited a hidden passion within me.
In 2013, I applied for my law license. Accompanied by my father, I traveled from Jeddah to Riyadh to visit the Legal Department, as online applications were not available at the time, and licenses for women were still a novel concept. By God’s grace, I received my license on October 6, 2013.
The moment I obtained my license was a blend of joy and responsibility. I felt the weight of this noble profession and entered its realm with a heart full of certainty and a spirit driven by the pursuit of justice.
The years have passed swiftly, and now, after more than a decade in this profession, I reflect on my journey with pride and gratitude to God. For me, law has never been just a profession; it is a life mission carried out with dedication to uphold truth and defend the oppressed.
Alhamdulillah, always and forever.
